JONES, Rodney Albert – It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Rodney on February 5, 2017 at the Hamilton General Hospital in his 79th year. Beloved husband of the late Shirley. Loving dad of Brenda, proud grandpa of Nathan (Allison) and Sara Berkeley. Great-grandpa of Greyson and Sawyer. Dear brother of Alan (Shirley). Life long friend of Walter Hines. Rod will be deeply missed by a multitude of family members and friends. Rod had a great passion for life and loved to entertain people with humour. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was the recipient of several provincial awards and a prestigious Canada’s Recreational Fisheries Award “in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the conservation and enhancement of the recreational fisheries.” Rod was one of the original founding members of the Ontario Steelheaders. Rod Jones

Rod JonesIt is with profound sadness that I must inform the Steelhead community of the passing of Rod Jones last night February 5th in his 78th year. If not for Rod numerous things in our Steelhead world wouldn’t exist. He was one of the original founding member of the OS established in 1977-78. He was involved in the creation of the up welling boxes on the Beatty Saugeen in 1979 the start of the improvement for the Saugeen River. He sat on the original meetings to establish the adult transfer program and the raising of our and LHFC yearlings. He saved Fisherman’s Park on the Saugeen from closure by starting the camp ground that is there today in the name of the OS.

Through all this Rod wanted nothing in return except to see the fishery grow to what is today. Rod and his core group of volunteers did much of this work and effort out of their own pockets again asking for nothing just wanting to create the fishery that we all enjoy today.

Rod was also a close personal friend to myself and many others who for many years will speak of the adventures that most of us enjoyed with the man. So in parting please wish his Daughter Brenda and her family our deepest heart felt condolences and fair well to man that we all owe a lot to thanks Rod.
