Winter is slowly moving on, and the spring Derby is almost here. Join us on Saturday May 3, 2025 for our annual Spring Steelhead Derby at Denny’s Dam Park on the Saugeen River (Denny’s). The derby starts at 7am and ends at 4pm sharp – ALL ARE WELCOME. All Ontario Fishing Regulations must be observed.

About 20 people fought terrible driving conditions to help with fin clipping at the Kincardine Hatchery. Whiteouts on Highway 21 forced its closure so our volunteers had to find alternate routes there. A HUGE THANK YOU to all of you who gave your time to help. Approximately 40,000 fish were clipped today with about another 29,000 to go, hopefully next Sunday March 9. ALL ARE WELCOME. This a great educational opportunity for high school students while earning volunteer hours. For more information call Craig (Bunzzie) at (519) 502-0001

Mother’s Day Weekend (May 10–11, 2025)
Father’s Day Weekend (June 14–15, 2025)
Family Fishing Week (June 28–July 6, 2025)

Follow fishing rules

Free fishing periods remind us of the value of Ontario’s recreational fishery, and the importance of keeping it healthy for future generations. While fishing during a free fishing period you must:
1. follow conservation license catch limits
2. obey size limits and sanctuaries
3. follow the fishing regulations
4. carry a permit or identification card issued by the provincial or
federal government, showing your name and date of birth

Starting on January 1st the ‘only’ fishing on the Saugeen is the waters from downstream of the abutments to Lake Huron. Please fish safely and always use common sense. Last year we lost one angler to the river when a 4 ft. surge of water swept him away, his body was never recovered (CTV News story). A few others needed fire department assistance. Common sense says to stay off the ice. Major problems occur especially when ice jams above Dennys dam break free, pour over the dam causing heavy ice flows as well very heavy flooding….AGAIN, COMMON SENSE! DON’T BE TRICKED!
